Rajasthan Jan Manches

In collaboration with 14 CSOs and mass based peoples’ movements, Samruddha Bharat organised a series of jan manches (citizen dialogues) across Rajasthan over a period ten days, which were televised by Hind Kisan, an online news channel focusing on rural issues, and Swaraj Express, a national television news channel.

Participants: Each jan manch saw the participation of hundreds of stakeholders including elected panchayat leaders, community leaders, beneficiaries of government schemes, organisers of self help groups, and ordinary citizens from two or more districts. It also saw the active participation of representatives of Soochna evam Rozgar Adhikar Abhiyan, Rajasthan Election Watch, Adivasi Vikas Adhikar Manch, Vagad Mazdoor Kisan Sangathan, Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan, Nirantar NGO, Unnati Sansthan, Unnati Sansthan, Urmul Marusthali Bunker Vikas Samiti, Jagaruk Nagrik Manch, Sara Sansthan, Peoples’ Union for Civil Liberties etc. who actively spearheaded the jan manches.

Outcomes: Candidates of various parties engaged with citizens in a constructive dialogue on their issues, and on their vision for their respective districts. These jan manches thereforewent a long way in empowering local communities in asserting their socio-economic and political issues with potential policymakers, and enabled them to make an informed choice in the assembly elections.
